Elizabeth Naramore, host of the "Future of PHP" webcast series for EngineYard has put out a call for PHP internals developers inviting ones that would like to chat a bit.

Consider this a call to the PHP Internals team. We've been doing a series of panel discussions over at Engine Yard about PHP-related frameworks and where they are going in the future, but one important piece that's missing is the discussion about the future of the PHP core. [...] If you're a core PHP contributor and you want to voice your opinion in a friendly panel discussion about where you'd like to see PHP in 5 years, then I'd love to chat with you and include you in the discussion.

So, if you've worked on the internals of the language and would like to be in on the discussion, let Elizabeth know by dropping her an email that you're interested!

John Maver's Blog: How to create a Bebo application using PHP 5

In this new post on his blog, John Maver gives a step-by-step guide for creating a PHP5 application for the popular social networking site Bebo.com.

I have been answering a lot of email requests for how to get started with a Bebo application. Since applications can be written in any language that supports interaction with the Bebo REST API, developers have a lot of choices in how they build their application. The focus of this article will be on the "officially supported language" - PHP.

He defines the parts of the application first (the callback, canvas page, profile box, invitation and news stories). Much like the Facebook API, the Bebo system has you host the application on your own servers and use their developer libraries to interface with their systems. He makes a simple application that has a "story" published to it that shows to each visitor.

He also tosses in a method for knowing a bit more about the user - like if they've just added the application, if they're a normal user or if they've just removed it from their application list.

Sebastian Bergmann has a new post today about this year's PHP Vikinger event:

The PHP Vikinger is a community-driven PHP event that will be held in Skien, Norway on June 24th an 25th. Like the famous Foo Camp and Bar Camp, PHP Vikinger is driven by its attendees. The people who come choose and present the sessions at the event.

Attendance for the event is made up of those that were invited to event (speakers and the like, 50 in all) and registrations made. Cost for attendance is only 20 Euro and food/lodging are included. Registration for the event opens May 1st.
