For those who haven't put the reoccurring event in their calendar, this announcement is for you: Zend Framework Monthly Bug-hunt is here again! This Thursday, Friday and Saturday of November (the 18th, 19th and 20th 2010), we'll be hosting our monthly bug hunt. For those of you unfamiliar with the event, each month, we organize the community to help reduce the number of open issues reported against the framework.

This bug hunt is a particularly important one since they've released the final release branch for the 1.x series. They want things to be "rock solid" and are encouraging even more testers to come and help out. To help out, you'll need a CLA on file and you can read their guide on how to get started.

Here are the PHP stats for August 2007. To learn about methodology, read la section phpversion. 27.1 millions servers hosted on 2.4 millions IP were surveyed during August, and 11.8 were used for stats : domaines without web sites, those unreachable, ISP, shared hosters or domain parkings were not considered.

Highlights this month include:

• The start of the decline of PHP4 usage!
• PHP 5 break its progression record : +1,5% to 22%
• August 2007, best month to compile PHP

To learn about methodology, read la section phpversion. 10.1 millions servers hosted on 2.3 millions IP were surveyed during December, and 22.8 were used for stats : domaines without web sites, those unreachable, ISP, shared hosters or domain parkings were not considered.

Highlights for the month:

• 5.2 is about to be the 3rd most popular version
• PHP 5 is more often chosen on larger domains
• In April, web sites are bracing for the next versions
• Doesn't seem to be much impact from MOPB : have to wait for this month's to see it.

Stats cover a wide range of topics including:

• PHP on the Internet
• PHP Versions with dropping usage
• PHP5 adoption by country
• PHP versions by IP

It saw a loss of 2.24% from the previous ranking but, thankfully, the rest of the top five saw the same kind of decrease. According to their long term trends, PHP is seeing an overall decline (right along with Java) as one of the top languages. Other languages like C++, Python, and Ruby are currently growing in use but don't quite have the percentage of adoption needed yet.

Their results also show a good jump in the adoption of object-oriented languages, but a drop in procedural language use.
