Community News: Dutch PHP Conference 2010 "Big Blind Bird" Ticket Sale

If you hadn't heard (and were up in the air on attending this year's event) the Dutch PHP Conference has put their tickets on sale as a part of a "big blind bird" discount, but it's only good before the schedule for this year is released.

In previous years, we always had 'early bird' discount on our DPC tickets. This year, we'll have early bird discounts as well, but we're adding an extra level of discount. Since the schedule isn't available yet (our Call for Papers is still running), we're launching the ticket sales with a 'blind bird discount'. For those of you that know that whatever the schedule is, DPC10 is going to be awesome anyway.

The passes are discounted for a limited time - you can get a full conference pass for 500 Euro (marked down 150 Euro) and a "Tutorial Only" ticket for 265 Euro (a discount of 85 Euro). Sound good? Head over and purchase your tickets</a. today!

O'Reilly: Language Dimensions/Dementia (Graph of Book Sales)

There's an interesting new post over on the O'Reilly OnLamp.com website containing some statistics about their book sales for the past few years by language.

Recently there was a thread on the O'Reilly Radar started by Tim O'Reilly posting a chart that I put together from our book sales data. The chart showed comparative market share for most of the relevant programming languages. I have updated this in the chart below and have included 2005 data as well.

The chart shows the trends each of the languages' sales has followed over the course of the past years. PHP's on the last and seems to have held pretty steady in a time when very few seem to be trending upward.

Christian Wenz's Blog: Zend and Oracle, again

Christian Wenz has posted this new item on his blog today with a report relating to the Oracle/Zend rumors that have been floating around.

<quote>

Well, the rumors (that also made it into blogosphere, including Toby's post) obviously could not be ignored by Zend any longer. Therefore, the German division of Zend just sent out an email to a couple of people officially stating that Zend is currently not negotiating a sale to Oracle.

</quote>

I suppose only time will tell on the deal, but it seems for now that the sale is not going to happen (and that there never was a sale in talks at all).
