BarCampMelbourne2008 was, simply put, AWESOME! BarCampMelbourne2008 was held at Thoughtworks [wikipedia] at 155 Queen Street, Melbourne on 23 Feb 08, and had approximately 60 in attendance.

Over on the IBM developerWorks blog, Patrick Mueller has posted his wrapup of this year's DC PHP Conference.

The conference was pretty small; about 80 people; in two small-ish conference rooms in the hotel. But everyone was great. Conferences are all about the people anyway. With the small crowd, it meant being able to spend time with a significant percentage of the people there. It was a mix of PHP thought leaders, everyday PHP programmers, and, since it was based in DC, a lot of folks focused on the unique industry that is DC - government.

He talks about some of the talks given - including Chris Shiflett's security talk and Eli White's look at high volume PHP & MySQL scaling techniques. He also mentions some of the "general chatter" that was happening around him. Check out the rest of the blog entry for more.

This past Thursday, I attended the DC PHP Conference. Since I was only there for a day, I'm sure I missed a lot, but I did manage to do some of the things on my list.

Talks hhe mentions were Mike Naberezny's look at Getting Started with the Zend Framework and Eli White's High Volume PHP & MySQL Scaling Techniques talk.

On her blog, Elizabeth Naramore has posted some thanks to the sponsores out there that are helping out with this year's PHP Appalachia event and some last minute details for those attending.

I wanted to give a quick acknowledgement to our sponsors for the event, as posted by <a href="http://www.benramsey.com/>Ben on our PHP Appalachia site. We have so many sponsors, and so many door prizes to give away, a good time will definitely be had by all. Their donations are really helping our grass roots gathering come together, and we all greatly appreciate their efforts. I also want to give a quick thanks to Cal Evans who also personally donated numerous t-shirts and goodies as well.

She gives a rough schedule for things, including how the talks will run and links to some info on the area to let you prepare for your trip.

Site News: Conference Talks Page Launched

Rather than clogging up the lines around here with all of the "I've posted my slides" postings that come with all of the conferences this fall, we've decided to gather all of the ones we know of all in the same place - our Talks Page.

Since the php/db|works conference is currently going on, those are the first that we've posted. There's only been a few people that have spoken up in their blogs about it, but there's definitely more out there.

In fact, if you're one of those giving a talk at the conference and have no place to put the files for your presentation, let us know and we'll post them here and link to them for you.

Even if you're a conference-goer, you can help out. If you hear of someone mentioning where they're posting their presentation and notice it's not on our list, drop us a line and let us know.
