Web Services and Chinese:
The Web Language
Dec 11, 2001 @ 14:06:33

Well, it's not exactly PHP, but it is still pretty cool. PHPEverywhere has a link this morning to a neat article over on WebReference.com by the (apparently) famous "Doc Javascript". This article discusses Web Services using XML (mainly) to create a "new internet" of networked machines that can work together without having to even speak the same language. All they have to do is know how to communicate. If you haven't gotten into this XML inter-machine communication stuff, you need to. I can make life so much easier at times...

And, yes, sadly, this isn't really PHP news either, but I thought it was interesting - especially given all of the English speaking sites out there right now. Evolt.org has a link to an article over on the Financial Times' site that states that by the year 2007, the "official" language of the web will be Chinese. Presently, only a small majority of almost 500 million users are from English-speaking backgrounds, but the numbers throughout countries such as China are growing quickly. Hmm, does this mean I need to start learning now...?
