ZendCon 2010: 3 Questions for Michaelangelo van Dam
Sep 30, 2010 @ 13:45:04

On the Zend Developer Zone there's a new interview with Michaelangelo van Dam, the guy running the show for this years Zend/PHP Conference's unconference. Cal asks him three questions about him and his involvement with the event.

It's really hard for me to interview someone like Michaelangelo van Dam, it's like interviewing a celebrity. He is so well known in the Zend Framework community and the PHP Community at large. he is one of the organizers of the PHPBenelux User Group and their annual conference. As difficult as it was thought, I powered through it to bring you, my valued reader, 3 questions with Michaelangelo van Dam

He asked the obvious "why you?" questions first, asking about the choice the Zend folks made to have him be the host. He also mentions the three talks Michaelangelo will be giving and how the average attendee can get their talk approved for the unconference once you arrive.

ZendCon Unconference Announcement
Sep 27, 2010 @ 14:34:46

Following the announcement of this year's unconference at the Zend/PHP Conference, Michelangelo Van Dam has posted some of his thoughts about being the one running the show this year.

Yes, there's going to be unconference (uncon) sessions at ZendCon 2010 ! I was chosen to run these very interesting, educative and as-equally high-valued parallel sessions at the PHP conference in Santa-Clara, CA. [...] I'm looking forward being your host for the ZendCon unconference and I hope I can achieve the same passion and quality as Keith "Mr. Uncon" Casey (@CaseySoftware) had done in the past years.

The Zend/PHP Conference will be happening November 1st through 4th in Santa Clara, California and will be hosting nine different tracks of sessions including ones on lifecycle best practices, server operations, architecture and design and the Zend Framework.

Contrary to earlier reports, ZendCon's unconference -- a set of parallel, participant-driven sessions -- will be happening again this year, for the fourth year running. This year, Michelangelo van Dam has agreed to take the reins from Keith Casey and chair this year's UnCon event. Michelangelo is well-known in the PHP community, having helped found PHPBenelux, assisted in promoting and participating in PHP HackFests, and assisted in running the Dutch PHP Conference unconference offering.

The details are still being ironed out, so keep an eye on the Zend Developer Zone for the latest updates as the conference gets closer and closer.

Preparations are already in high gear, and you can make an impact on what fellow PHPers will wear in Fall of 2010! Submit your cool t-shirt designs or just cast your vote. The winning design will be used for the new 'official' PHP t-shirt. Every ZendCon attendee (and some others) will be getting the free t-shirt, and you get a free pass to the conference!

Besides the ticket to ZendCon, there's also two other prizes for the runners up - a free pass for a Zend Certification Exam (5.3) and a pass for a Zend Framework Certification Exam. There's about seven weeks left to submit your design and are currently eight entries on the list, so get your design in early to give it the best chance for the most votes.
