Juozas Kaziukenas' Blog:
Why I embrace PHP on Windows
Dec 01, 2010 @ 17:31:33

In this new post to his blog Juozas Kaziukenas talks about why he "embraces PHP on Windows" over the more common LAMP sort of stack that PHP development has been known for.

I have been getting this question a lot lately – why I care about PHP on Windows (and give talks about it) and don’t just use Linux. Interestingly though, I use Linux for most of the clients I work for, but this is completely irrelevant. Let me get this straight – it’s not about migrating working applications from X (usually Linux) servers to Windows. It’s just not about that. What it is about is to have an option to deploy on Windows. Why?

He goes through some of his initial reasons as to why he made the Microsoft choice and how, despite the "free" nature of open source software, the cost can come back in maintenance. He also talks about how performance is (almost) no longer an issue between the two platforms and how things like BizSpark can help attract businesses to what the Microsoft platform has to offer.
