Coffee is the most important thing for developers. Yet, good coffee. At conferences it is almost vital to have a good coffee during the breaks and talk to experts. For this reason, MAYFLOWER will have a Coffee Lounge at the International PHP Conference in Mainz (Germany): Get coffee en masse for your business card.

Developers with lots of different specialties will be there on topics like web security, moving your applications to PHP5, getting the best performance out of your apps and the Zend Framework.

Mayflower Barcamp Developing a PHP extension for Skype
March 17, 2008 @ 10:24:29

On the ThinkPHP blog today, Andreas Uhsemann has posted about a project that he and fellow Mayflower Barcampers came up with that they thought could be useful (and interesting) to work on - a PHP extension to interface with the Skype communication tool.

At the Mayflower Barcamp a few weeks ago we had a very interesting and promising project: Develop a PHP extension for communication with Skype. Actually this project was a merge between two projects: One was to "develop a PHP extension" - five out of six project members never had written any PHP extension or did any PHP core development before. The other project was the Skype extension, with the goal to have a new PHP function that could send a chat message to a given Skype profile.

As they worked on it, they realized that it was really D-Bus (the message bus system) they needed to interface with, not Skype directly. They include some of the code they used to make the connection - creating the message, setting a few parameters and "send and block" the message out to the D-Bus connection waiting. They've even put the code up on a public CVS repository (on thinkforge.org) if you'd like to download and play with it yourself.

SektionEins joined forces of Stefan Esser/Hardened PHP and Mayflower
May 24, 2007 @ 12:02:00

The ThinkPHP Blog has some new information posted about a collaboration between the Mayflower Group and Stefan Esser (and the Hardened-PHP Project) to create SektionEins.

SektionEins specializes in Web Application Security, supporting every web platform available out there. Of course there is some special knowledge in the area of PHP included and the Chorizo and Consulting experience does add a lot of Web2.0 knowhow.

With SektionEins both Suhosin and Chorizo found a new home. And so does Web Application Security.

Currently, the new service hasn't launched yet, but you can enter your email address to be notified when it's open for business.
