For those that couldn't attend this year's New York PHP Conference that happened back in June, this new 'review' of the conference from Timothy Boronczyk might give you a glimpse into the goings on there.
I attended the New York PHP Conference held in New York City, June 12 - June 16, 2006. Pre-conference training sessions were schedule for the first two days and the remaining days were for the conference itself.
Timothycovers the parts of the conference he was able to attend, including a beginner's PHP class (by Jeff Siegel), a two-day overview of the language and plenty of examples to back that knowledge up. Once the conference began, he moved to a class from Jay Pipes, "Maximum Velocity MySQL". Other talks he also attended included "PHP Rocking in the Windows World", "Quercus: A 100% Clean Room Implementation of PHP in Java", "Metaprogramming with PHP".
For his opinions on all of these talks (and more), check out the full review on the Codewalkers.com site.
Metaprogramming is a handy approach for object-relational mapping tools, web-programming frameworks, and other problem domains where building a new programming language on top of an old one becomes the shortest route to a solution.
PHP's 'solve the web problem' aesthetic makes some metaprogramming tasks difficult, but it nevertheless has a large collection of features that let you programmatically tweak syntax, style, and other coding aspects.
His talk looks at various methods to help you get started, including working with the "magic methods" and SPL interfaces.
We recieved a new note today from the group putting on the New York PHP Conference coming up in a little over a week about a discount on tickets for those that haven't signed up yet:

I'm also helping with the Oracle PHPfest on Thursday, June 15 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the foyer. The PHPfest will get you up and running with PHP and Oracle, and set you on your way to building scalable applications.
He also mentions the book that he (and Alison Holloway) have been working on, the "Underground PHP and Oracle Manual", and it's preliminary release. Attendees for the installfest have already recieved early drafts.
If you haven't gotten your tickets for the event yet, you can still head over to the main conference site and grab your tickets today! The conference is June 14th-16th at the New Yorker Hotel in Manhattan, NY and tickets start at $395 USD.
I think of it as an anti-The-Daily-WTF talk, and it should be more entertaining than it perhaps sounds. (If you've never read the WTF, I strongly recommend it both for entertainment and enlightenment.) I believe in terse, elegant code that gets the job done, which perhaps reflects my origins as a C programmer rather than as a Java one.
You can get complete details on her talk and on the conference from the official New York PHP Conference website, including saving your place at the conference by registering.
The New York PHP group has posted the official conference schedule on the event's site today, and it includes topics ranging from beginner level howtos all the way out to the upcoming Unicode functionality in PHP6.
The NYPHPCon 2006 pre-conference workshop offers an opportunity for you or your team members to get up to speed with the PHP language, and then apply what you've learned as you attend the Conference itself. The well-known and highly rated New York PHP two-day in-depth training provides an appropriate foundation for benefitting from the Conference's content.
For web developers with no programming background, the Designer track gets you started understanding how to use PHP for non-static web development; for programmers with no prior experience with PHP, the Programmer's track lets you begin applying your existing skills with the hottest language around.
