The Voices of the ElePHPant podcast has posted a special episode of their "It's the Booze Talking" series with a show of podcasters talking about podcasting. Besides host Cal Evans the episode also features other podcast hosts Sammy Powers (PHP Roundtable), Matt Stauffer (5 Minute Geek Show/Laravel Podcast), Chris Hartjes (DevHell), Ben Edmunds (PHP Town Hall), Kayla Daniels (No Capes), Beau Simensen (That Podcast) and NinjaGirl (#ossart).

They talk about why they started their podcasts and what they want their show to be for their listening audience. They also go around and mention who they think their target audience is (or if there is a target), how they present their content to match and some of the feedback they get. Cal also asks some of the "how" involved in creating their shows and sharing them with their listeners. Finally they talk about some of their own "horror stories" they've had during the production of their show.

In the episode Cal and Ben talk some about Ben's own experience in the PHP community with a bit of a "retrospective" and how he felt good being a part of something good. He also talks about his experience getting back into the community and publishing an open source library. They also talk about his experience contributing to the core PHP language and his involvement with the VirtPHP project.

Interview with Matthew Weier O'Phinney

The Voices of the ElePHPant podcast has posted their latest episode interviewing a member of the PHP community. This time host Cal Evans talks with Matthew Weier O'Phinney of the Zend Framework team.

In this new episode Cal and Matthew talk about a conversation they were involved in about Conduit, a "middleware for PHP" project. It came from some of his testing with Node.js and wondering why PHP didn't have something similar. This lead to the PSR-7 proposal from the PHP-FIG group with a standardized HTTP request and response structure. They also talk about how these concepts are being integrated into frameworks like Zend Framework and how it's helping improve performance. They also talk about how this move will effect major projects like WordPress or Drupal. They wrap things up talking about Zend Framework v3 and the work that's currently being done to split up the components and lock down the framework as a "meta-package" with specific versions of the components.

The Voices of the ElePHPant podcast has posted their latest in the series of community interviews today. This time host Cal Evans interviews Jeremy Lindblom of the Seattle PHP user group and the Pacific Northwest PHP Conference.

They talk some about Jeremy's work at Amazon and the AWS services. He focuses on the PHP SDK that makes it easier to connect and work with the AWS services/APIs. They also talk about the work he does with the user group there in Seattle and what kind of format they follow. They also briefly mention the Pacific Northwest PHP Conference and the work he's doing as an organizer on that event.

Chris and Cal talk some about Chris' experience with devops and what kind of services that entails. He also does PHP development, but provides support and setup of systems and servers. They also talk some about what Chris sees as some of the major problems between devs and operations. Cal also asks Chris for some advice to developers so they can be more successful on their understanding of the servers their applications run on. There's also a brief mention of WurstCon, an impromptu "conference" that started around just getting some hotdogs.
