/Dev/Hell Podcast:
Episode 48 Old as Dirt
July 24, 2014 @ 12:55:53

The /Dev/Hell podcast has released their latest episode today, number 48: Old As Dirt. In this episode hosts Chris Hartjes and Ed Finkler are joined by guest Elizabeth Smith about being "old as dirt" and mentoring other developers.

Our guest this week is Elizabeth Smith, PHP internals veteran and guru of PHP on Windows (she says "I wish every company was as good at giving back to open source as Microsoft"). We talk about being Old as Dirt in relation to a blog post Ed made last week, how to mentor up and coming developers, and the history of PHP on Windows.

They also talk about Ed's The Developer's Dystopian Future article, PHP-GTK and the PHPMentoring project. You can listen to this latest episode either through the in-page player or by downloading the mp3 directly.

DPCRadio:
Episode #2012-27 - Elizabeth Smith's "SPL in the Wild"
November 12, 2012 @ 12:53:38

The Dutch PHP Conference has posted their latest podcast in their DPCRadio series as recorded at this year's Dutch PHP Conference - Elizabeth Smith's SPL in the Wild:

The standard PHP library (SPL) is growing in both maturity and use. But a lot of developers still aren't aware of the tools in SPL or simply haven't seen good examples of how to use the code. From interfaces to an autoload stack to classes that make objects act like arrays, there are tools to make every application leaner and faster, or simply more clever. Using live projects from github, take a look at the good, bad, and the ugly of SPL usage in PHP development.

You can listen to this latest episode either via the in-page player or by downloading it directly. You can also subscribe to their feed and get the latest as they're released.

Matthew Turland's Blog:
Custom building php on windows and linux
March 21, 2008 @ 10:48:09

A while back Mathew Turland posted a guide for getting a custom version of PHP compiled on a Windows machine.

At the encouragement of Elizabeth Smith, I went through the process (not-so-recently as of this blog entry) of compiling PHP on Windows.

He gives his "laundry list" of things to download/have access to and the link to Elizabeth's tutorial handy. Matthew found a few differences in his compile - an issue with IPv6 support and a pathing problem with the scripts trying to find libmysql.dll. He also throws in his instructions on getting aspell support compiled in.

Zend Developer Zone:
PHP Abstract Podcast Episode 27 Introducing PECL Picks
December 03, 2007 @ 12:08:00

The Zend Developer Zone has posted the latest episode of their PHP Abstract podcast series. This time they have Elizabeth Smith talking some about PECL.

Todays special guest is Elizabeth Marie Smith. I quote now from her "About Me" page of her blog, a link to which can be found in the show notes. Elizabeth has been using PHP since time immemorial but has used PHP 5 for so long now she's forgotten how she ever got by without SPL and a real object model. [...] Today Elizabeth is going to share with us about PECL, the PHP Extension Community Library.

The mp3 is available for download directly or you can get this and other great episodes by subscribing to their feed through your favorite aggregation software.

Check out her blog entry too...
