PHP-GTK 2 Alpha Released
Jul 18, 2006 @ 10:56:24

First Andrei posted a note about it and now Scott Mattocks has made his own comments on the release of the PHP-GTK 2 Alpha version .

This is the first release of PHP-GTK 2. PHP-GTK 2 is a PHP extension that combines the power and flexibility of both PHP 5 and GTK+ 2 to allow developers to create stand-alone desktop GUI applications using PHP.

Scott reminds all potential users of this release out there that this is most definitely aplha and shouldn't be used in production due to some bugs and feature changes that will need to be resolved.

If you're still interested, you can grab the download from the PHP-GTK site and check out the new manual or subscribe to the mailing list for a little help.

PHP-GTK 2 Zeta (Yes, Zeta)
Jul 17, 2006 @ 10:52:23

Andrei Zmievski shares some information about the "zeta" release of PHP-GTK 2 in his latest blog post (yes, that's right - zeta).

PHP-GTK 2 Zeta release, the first one of the new architecture, is finally out. No, zeta it's not a typo. What's a zeta? Well, it's a letter of the Greek alphabet. Why zeta? Because, a) we've gone through several "iterations" of this release without actually releasing anything, but more importantly, b) alpha and beta get all the glory in the software world, leaving the other Greek letters longing for a spot in the sunshine. So, zeta it is.

He also notes that he's been working on the project for over five years. Thanks Andrei for all of your hard work and dedication to the project - it's great to see this new long-awaited release finally happening!
