#20yearsofphp - A Timeline of Tweets
Jun 11, 2015 @ 16:17:39

In remembrance of the 20th anniversary of PHP, the Zend Developer Zone has created a new post sharing tweets from the PHP Community Twitter account covering the history of PHP.

My friend - and PHP Community Old Guard - Ben (@ramsey) Ramsey did something awesome for PHP's 20th, he tweeted out the PHP timeline. I've gathered them all here to celebrate both PHP and the work he put into this project.

The post shares a long list of the tweets from the account mentioning the happenings of the last twenty years. It starts with the first release of the language back in 1995 (by Rasmus Lerdorf) and goes all the way up through the present day. It's been quite a ride over the last 20 years. If you're new to the PHP community or just want to relive some of the memories of the past, check out the full post!

Thoughts on the PHP Community Conference
Mar 09, 2011 @ 17:43:14

People in the PHP community are excited about the upcoming PHP Community Conference (happening in April) and a few have even blogged about it. Both Paul Reinheimer and Lorna Mitchell have shared some of their thoughts about the upcoming event, both as speakers.

The PHP Community conference is happening April 21st and 22nd in Nashville, Tennessee and includes a day of tutorials and a day of regular conference sessions. To say "regular" doesn't do it justice though - this event is more about the passion that drives developers than the "cool new tech" you can get at other events.

For more information about the conference and to reserve your spot, head to the main conference website. The tickets are only $300 USD and include both days as well as food/drinks while there. Be sure to check out the full speaker list for all of the great content you'll see!

UPDATE: Matthew Weier O'Phinney and Ed Finkler have posted their thoughts as well.

A Different Kind of Conference: the PHP Community Conference
Jan 19, 2011 @ 14:45:57

There's a "new kid" in the PHP conference world that was just announced at the end of last week - the PHP Community Conference happening in Nashville, TN April 21st and 22nd. Ben Ramsey, one of the organizers of the event has written a new post for his blog talking about some of the motivation behind the new conference.

I’ve long wanted to organize a community-driven PHP conference, as far back as 2004, when I helped form the Atlanta PHP user group. [...] I've seen conferences as both a speaker and an attendee, and from conversations with many other speakers and attendees, I knew it was time for something different. Unfortunately, I didn’t know exactly what "different" should mean.

He talks about how the OSBridge conference was a sort of inspiration for him and his fellow organizers - a community-driven conference that wasn't the usual come-give-your-talk sort of event. The PHP Community Conference (like Brooklyn Beta before it) is more about sharing what you love and what you're doing with the language than about being technical. As they define it:

PHP Community Conference is a conference for people who care about PHP and the code they write with it.

Their Call for Papers is still open, so if you would like to be considered for a spot at this two day event, you can find out more on the PHP Community Conference website.

PHP Community T-Shirts
Aug 22, 2007 @ 12:53:11

Ben Ramsey has posted the design that's been developed (as developed by Ligaya Turmelle and Elizabeth Naramore) for the PHP Community t-shirts they'll have at this year's Zend/PHP Conference & Expo:

Last year, a substantial number of regulars of #phpc attended the Zend/PHP Conference and Expo, so we decided to make #phpc t-shirts for everyone. This year, that number of attendees from #phpc has dramatically risen, and, again, we'll be creating special t-shirts, this time using the original PHPCommunity.org logo created by Peter Jovanovic (with contributions from Richard Davey).

If you're attending the conference and would like one of the shirts, submit your information and you'll be added to the list.

Check out Ligaya Turmelle's blog post for more information.
