Symfony Website Updates
Oct 04, 2013 @ 14:05:44

On the Symfony project's blog today there's a new post from Fabien Potencier talking about some updates that have been made to the Symfony website.

There's a few things that got an update including:

  • Translations that were added to the main site
  • A method of aggregation for Symfony-related blogs
  • A Roadmap notification system that lets you set up email notifications on major roadmap changes and releases.

They're still working on the translations, but if you'd like to help you can contribute to their github repository.

ThinkPHP Blog:
About planetary-sized posters
Jul 14, 2009 @ 14:08:32

Over on the ThinkPHP blog there's a mention of an offer coordinating with the recent PHP 5.3 release - huge posters they've made up for the Zend Framework.

Geez, what a week! On Friday, we'll party on celebrating the PHP 5.3 release in Munich/Germany. For those of you who can't be there, I'm sure there will be enough photos on Flickr, Facebook and the like. But, as you may remember, we've produced some very cool Zend Framework posters. I just got an e-mail from Rob Zienert about planetary-sized posters.

You can contact them with your address and your language preference (English/German) at the address in the post. There's also mention of a PHP security poster coming out soon too!

Planet PHP Sources now on GitHub
May 04, 2009 @ 14:35:32

If you're a fan of Planet-PHP (our fellow PHP news source) and have wanted to see how things run behind the scenes, you might want to check out this bit of information from Christian Stocker on where the source has ended up.

After Lukas asked me for the current Planet sources, I realized that I didn't really maintain the sources in the mentioned SVN repository anymore (for various reasons). So I decided to finally move them to GitHub. It makes much more sense there, since the most decent thing to do if you want to set up your own planet is to fork it and git (plus GitHub) makes that painlessly easy. Nevertheless I'm of course still interested in patches.

He warns that the code is a bit on the old side and that the framework its based on has officially been deprecated. If you're still interested, though, you can find (and clone) the application from its GitHub page.

There's a new planet - planet.php.ie
Apr 18, 2008 @ 18:49:48

Ken Guest has a quick note about another "planet" site that's been started up for the PHP community - Planet.php.ie:

After a bit of discussion on the php.ie mailing list, Kae Verens and David Coallier set up http://planet.php.ie to bundle together blog postings from people within the Irish PHP community - a big thank you is deserved for them.

There's currently five bloggers added to the planet so if you'd like to be added, either contact Ken or Kae.

Sebastian Bergmann's Blog:
Planet PHPUnit
Jan 28, 2008 @ 14:08:12

Sebastian Bergmann has officially announced the creation of a new planet in the PHP community - one specifically for the PHPUnit testing suite - Planet PHPUnit.

At the moment only three feeds are aggregated on Planet PHPUnit: release announcements, articles about new features in PHPUnit written by myself, and Manuel Pichler's blog postings on phpUnderControl.

He also is requesting that anyone out there currently writing on any topics surrounding the popular unit testing framework send him an email letting him know where it's at.

Extending the Mapper: Stars and Planets
Oct 23, 2006 @ 19:17:00

Pádraic Brady is back today with another update on the game he's working on and his latest addition - the stars and planets ("bodies").

Planets and Stars ("Bodies") form the central hub around which the majority of a player's activity will center. This planning document addresses the generation and mapping of these entities, and not their individual contents, facilities or uses.

He breaks it down into a few steps:

  • Laying a Foundation
  • Adding Stars
  • Skeleton Map_Star Interfaces
  • Implementing the Map_Star Interfaces
  • Position Random
  • Generate Simple
  • Conclusion
The end result is a system for positioning stars and providing all of the star's data to the user.

New Planet Discovered
Jan 19, 2006 @ 12:47:47

Derick Rethans has a quick new post today about the "discovery" of a new Planet site focused around the world of eZ Publish.

No, this is not something that New Horizons found as that mission hasn't been launched yet. It's Planet eZ publish, an aggregation of blogs about eZ publish, similar to Planet PHP that aggregates blogs about PHP.

Some of the blogs already included in the list are from people like: Derick himself, Tobias Schlitt, Kristof Coomans, and Paul Borgermans. The RSS feed for the site can be found here...
