SugarCRM Installation Error
Jul 16, 2010 @ 14:17:11

In the latest post to her blog Lorna Mitchell talks about some of the issues she had when upgrading to the latest version of SugarCRM (6.0.0).

I noticed that SugarCRM have just released their new version 6.0.0, and since my sugarcrm installation is madly out of date and I'm about to start using it again, I thought I'd just throw the old one away and install from scratch. I had no problems until I reached the final installation stage, when clicking the "install" button would return a 404.

After running through things a few times more, she finally corrected the cause of some of the errors of this final step - increasing the memory_limit setting, upload_file_size as well as installing cURL support for PHP. With these changes, the install worked perfectly.

What SugarCRM books should you read?
Jan 21, 2010 @ 15:19:58

In doing some reviews of several SugarCRM books Sander Van Hooft has posted some of his suggestions for good ones to look into if you're trying to get into how SugarCRM works and using it day-to-day.

Finding the information you need can consume very much time, even more if you are new to the Open Source CRM solution SugarCRM. Not all books however are the right choice for all user types. Buying yourself a decent book may be an obvious time saver, but then, since you're new to all this, what book should you buy?

His suggestions cover a wide range of skill levels including the SugarCRM for Dummies book and a Developer's Guide on extending and enhancing your SugarCRM installation.

Load Testing SugarCRM and the Zend Optimizer
Nov 14, 2007 @ 21:16:00

Chris Merrill has written up a case study measuring the load handling abilities of the Zend Optimizer with a default application - in this case, SugarCRM.

This article measures the performance impact of the Zend Optimizer on a real-world processor-bound PHP application (SugarCRM) under load. Our measure of performance is user capacity. We define that as the number of simultaneous users that the system can support while meeting the specified performance criteria. The performance criteria for this test require that all pages load within 6 seconds and no errors are encountered in the application.

The process is broken out into a few different sections including the methodology he used (including the software list, hardware used and configurations of both) and the results/analysis from running the test requests (such as page duration and server process use).
