Three Devs & A Maybe:
Build, Provision and Deploy in the Cloud with Thijs Feryn
Feb 16, 2018 @ 17:31:13

The Three Devs and a Maybe podcast, with hosts Michael Budd, Fraser Hart, Lewis Cains and Edd Mann, has posted their latest episode with special guest Thijs Feryn talking about the build/provision/deploy pipeline "in the cloud".

In this weeks episode we are joined by Thijs Feryn to discuss his upcoming PHP UK conference talk. We start of the show highlighting what drew him to a Tech. evangelist role, bridging the gap between code/infrastructure and the ideas behind ‘Infrastructure as Code’. From here we move on to discuss system and infrastructure provisioning automation tools such Ansible and Terraform. This leads on to adding Packer into the mix, moving towards immutable infrastructure, testing these automation tools and how history has a way of repeating itself. Finally, we touch upon the philosophy behind DevOps, focusing on empathy and its core values CAMS.

You can listen to this latest episode either by using the in-page audio player or by downloading the mp3 directly. If you enjoy the show, be sure to subscribe to their feed and follow them on Twitter for updates when new shows are released.

Cal Evans – Personal branding, developer advocacy & community
Feb 15, 2016 @ 18:19:18

Thjis Feryn has posted another in his series of video interviews with a member of the PHP community. In this latest episode Thijs caught up with Cal Evans at this year's PHPBenelux conference.

The interview was recorded at PHPBenelux Conference 2016. Cal Evans was invited as the keynote speaker which he was very excited about. He had keynoted our very first edition back in 2010 and now he was back. Over the years there was quite some talk about inviting him back, but up until recently it never really worked out.

He obviously did a really good job.

They talk some about branding, being a "developer advocate" and being a member of the global PHP community (or just your local one). You can watch the video of the episode either in the in-page video player or directly on YouTube. If you're more audio-inclined you can also listen over on SoundCloud. If you'd like the show, you can check out other interviews on his site through the "interview" tag on his site.

Thijs Feryn has posted his latest video interview with a member of the PHP community. In this new episode he talks with Michael Heap, a developer at Datasift, about the work he does there and traveling (as they make their way back to the airport...)

Michael Heap is a developer who works at [Datasift](http://datasift.com/). On Thursday January 28th 2016 Michael flew from London Heathrow to Brussels to attend the [PHPBenelux Conference 2016](http://conference.phpbenelux.eu/2016). Unfortunately he forgot his laptop on the plane.

While driving Michael to the airport, I decided to ask him a couple of questions and that resulted in a nice conversation.

Fabrizio Branca – Talking about Magento & living in the Bay Area
Nov 30, 2015 @ 18:27:07

Thijs Feryn has posted his latest in his series of video interviews during his travels to various conferences around the world. In his latest he talks with Fabrizio Branca about Magento and what it's like living in the (San Francisco) Bay Area.

I had the pleasure of having a great conversation with Fabrizio Branca. Fabrizio was born in Italy, raised in Germany and currently lives in the Bay Area, near San Francisco. He is a well-respected member of the Magento community and has a bunch of Magento modules to his name.

It comes as no surprise that the main subject of our conversation was about Magento. [...] Fabrizio works for AOE, a German-based company that focuses on open source software. It was actually thanks to AOE that Fabrizio and his family were able to move to San Francisco. He started a team out there and has been living in the Bay Area for a number of years now. We talk about that as well.

In his latest video interview Thijs Feryn talks caught up with the ContinuousPHP team out in the Nevada desert while at this year's ZendCon.

ContinuousPHPThis week’s episode features Frédéric Dewinne and Oswald De Riemaecker from ContinuousPHP. We talk about how they met and how they almost instantly founded the company. ContinuousPHP is a Platform As A Service that focuses on continuous delivery and continuous deployment in the PHP space.

They talk about ContinuousPHP, how it started out and where some of the funding came from initially. They also talk about life as a startup and growing a community around the service and the PHP community there in Luxembourg. The Drupal 8 origin story with Larry Garfield
Nov 23, 2015 @ 18:28:57

Thijs Feryn has posted the latest episode in his series of video interviews with members of the PHP community he's caught up with at conferences. In his latest show he talks with Larry Garfield, one of the more well-known members in the Drupal community about the latest milestone in Drupal, the release of Drupal 8.

Today, November 19th 2015, marks the release date of Drupal 8. To celebrate this release, I decided to publish my interview with Larry Garfield today.

Larry is a key member of the Drupal community and a core contributor to the project. Throughout the conversation, Larry tells us the origin story of Drupal 8 and how the technical challenges lead to the adoption of technology from the broader PHP community such as Composer, Twig and a set of Symfony Components.

I hope you like the interview, it gives a nice behind the scenes look at the history of Drupal 8 and how Drupal reached out to the PHP community to create a more modern code base.

You can watch the video either through the in-page video player or directly on YouTube. You can also check out his previous interviews in this archive section on his site.

Thijs Feryn has posted his latest in his series of video interviews with members of the PHP community. In this latest episode he talks with Gary Hockin of JetBrains about developer evangelism, the PHPStorm IDE and community conferences.

A couple of weeks ago I was in Las Vegas for Zendcon where I had to opportunity to chat with a lot of friends from the PHP community. This week’s episode features Gary Hockin, developer evangelist at JetBrains. Gary advocates the PHPStorm project and is a proud Welshman.

Because Gary and I are both evangelists, one of the central themes of the interview is developer evangelism. We talk about the life, the travel, the public speaking, but also about the not so glamorous parts of the job. Throughout the conversation we also talk about PHPStorm and PHP community conferences.
