Using Guzzle 6 Middleware in a Laravel Application
May 03, 2017 @ 16:10:36

In this recent post on Medium.com author Paul Redmond shows how to use Guzzle 6 middleware in a Laravel application instead of the framework's own functionality.

The most significant change between Guzzle 5 and 6 is moving away from the event system I grew so accustomed to in Version 5 to middleware in version 6. Needless to say, it was a big adjustment for me at first and it felt like a downgrade. After my initial grumbling, the upgrade guide explains the reasoning for the change.

[...] I prefer to keep my dependencies as up-to-date as possible so I decided to learn Guzzle 6 and become more familiar with the middleware. The concepts are pretty straightforward and I have a few patterns that I like to use when building out middleware within my Laravel applications.

He then shares some code he's used to generate an authorization header and how to add it into the Laravel application as a service using the "tagged" middleware functionality. Finally he shows it in use making a simple request to the endpoint and showing the response results, including the authorization header.

Zend Framework Blog:
Issues, Tags, and Closures (oh my)
Apr 14, 2016 @ 15:37:52

On the Zend Framework blog there's an update from Gary Hockin about some GitHub project-level changes that will be happening soon. He'll be doing some housekeeping on the current list of open issues in the main zf2 repository.

I want to make you aware of some upcoming changes to the issues that are currently logged in GitHub. We currently have 426 open issues that are logged against the (now) meta zf2 repository. The vast majority of these are now in the wrong place, as we've split our once monolithic single repository into the many single component repositories. These issues should be moved from the zf2 repository to the correct component that the issue relates to.

He's closed some issues in preparation and tagged others with a "To Be Closed" tag for later handling. By early May all issues tagged "To Be Closed" will be finished out and/or moved to the correct locations. This will leave the project with around 100 issues to manage and to move to the right locations.

First beta of Slim Framework 3
Jul 03, 2015 @ 13:03:18

Rob Allen has a new post about the tagging of the first beta of Slim Framework v3, the popular PHP microframework's latest version. In it he details a few of the major changes and requests help testing.

Last night, I tagged beta 1 of Slim Framework 3! This is a significant upgrade to v2 with a number of changes that you can read on the Slim blog. For me, the two key features that I'm most excited about are: PSR-7 support, [...and a] dependency injection container with container-interop compliance. [...] There's lots of other changes and we believe we have kept to the key tenants of Slim, keeping it focussed as a micro-framework suitable for building any application that you want to build.

He includes everything you'll need to test this newly tagged release with the help of his skeleton application. He also links to the new documentation that's a work in progress to replace the current set of docs. You can find more information on the full list of changes over on the Slim blog.

Mapping Seven Things
Jan 05, 2009 @ 17:17:14

Since the Seven Things meme has been charging its way through the members of the PHP community (and some outside it), it's hard to keep track of who is tagging who and if those people have posted their "seven things" and tagged others. Michelangelo van Dam has tried to make things easier with his "Who Tagged Who" map mini-application that crawls through the posts looking for others who were tagged.

Trying to get a bit of overview of all people who have put up their "Seven Things" list, I created a little map that shows who tagged who with an overview of the most tagged persons.

You can also grab the XML source file if you'd like to manipulate it yourself.
